Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

British fashion designer Mary Quant has died aged 94. She is considered the “mother” of the miniskirt.

In the UK, fashion designer Mary Quant, considered the popularizer of the miniskirt, has died at the age of 93. This is reported by the PA agency, citing the creator’s family.

Quant died on the morning of April 13 at her home in the English county of Surrey. She was “one of the internationally recognized fashion designers of the 20th century and a pioneer of the ‘Swinging Sixties,'” the Quant family said in a statement.

Quant received his artistic training at Goldsmiths College in London. There she met her future husband, Alexander Plunkett-Green, who later helped her start her own fashion label and open Bazaar on Kings Road in London.

Mary Quant is referred to by the British media as the “mother” of the miniskirt. The very creation of this wardrobe item is associated with the names of different designers. However, Quant is credited with making miniskirts a staple of women’s fashion in the 1960s, accessible even on a tight budget.

Quant also popularized shorts, tights, bright makeup, PVC raincoats, swimsuits, neon boots and a bob cut by stylist Vidal Sassoon. Some compare Mary Quant’s influence on the fashion world to that of the Beatles on pop music. Remarks Associated Press.

In 2015, Quant was appointed MBE for her services to British fashion and awarded the title of Dame.
