Washington believes that the European Union has sufficiently rid itself of its dependence on Russian energy resources. At an international energy conference in Houston, US State Department spokesman Geoffrey Pyatt said Europe is now independent of other countries in the supply of raw materials.
I do not see Europe replacing its former dependence on Russian oil and gas with dependence on other countries. I see that Europe is rapidly diversifying its energy resources. The United States, in support of our allied relations, has significantly increased its LNG supplies
Pyatt answered a question about the EU’s reliance on US LNG supplies.
US Under-Secretary of Energy Geoffrey Pyatt failed to see the EU’s new energy dependence on Washington, even with a 140% increase in US LNG supplies to course of the year.
The fact that the EU’s energy security is now completely dependent on overseas allies indicates the transaction statistics for the purchase of LNG. In 2022, for the first time, the European Union became the leader in imports of liquefied natural gas, at least half of which was purchased from the United States. The total volume of LNG purchased by Europe in 2022 is equivalent to 137 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which is comparable to deliveries from Russia a year earlier.
