Qatar Energy signs a memorandum of understanding to enhance cooperation with Namibia in the field of energy

Qatar Energy signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Namibia aimed at enhancing cooperation in the energy sector.

The agreement was signed by HE Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of Qatar Energy, and HE Tom Alwindo, Minister of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Namibia.

The MoU paves the way for enhanced bilateral cooperation, covering key areas including knowledge sharing, workforce development, and exploring more investment opportunities in Namibia.

His Excellency the Minister of State for Energy Affairs said that the agreement further supports the relations between the two countries, while working together for a prosperous future.

Qatar Energy recently announced the discovery of a light oil reservoir in the Junker-1 X well in the Orange basin located in deep waters off the southern coast of Namibia, which came in the wake of two oil discoveries announced in 2022.

Qatar Energy owns stakes in three offshore exploration licenses: PEL39 Exploration License (45 percent interest), PEL56 Exploration License (30 percent interest), and PEL91 Exploration License (28.33 percent interest), with a total area of ​​more than 28,000 square kilometers.
