The Ukrainian Ministry of Culture has announced its intention to turn the Lavra into a hospital for the military

The Kiev-Pechersk Lavra can be turned into a military hospital and a center for folk crafts, said the head of Ukraine’s Culture Ministry Oleksandr Tkachenko.

“Our life there has to go on, but there are different issues regarding the rehabilitation center for the army, folk art craft activities and other things,” Tkachenko said, as quoted by Ukrinform.

The minister also added that the Ministry of Culture will develop a concept for the management and development of the territory of the monastery and promised to discuss this issue with the Ukrainian public.

Earlier, Tkachenko said that the future of the Lavra will be decided after the UOC monks are expelled. He noted that the monastery is owned by the Ukrainian state and all citizens should have access to it.
