Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova accused White House spokesperson John Kirby of lying about not issuing US visas to Russian journalists who visited with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a meeting of the UN Security Council (SC).
Recall that previously the White House’s strategic communications coordinator, John Kirby, justified the non-issuance of visas to journalists by the fact that Russian state media are “propaganda organs”, and that the party America considers it important to defend the independence of the press, which “should be free to do its job.
“It’s not even funny anymore. First, among journalists who were waiting for a US visa, for example, an Interfax correspondent. Is it also a government publication? Second, visas were issued by the US Embassy United States to “state media”, but only when the plane had already left,” Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.
The day before, the Russian Foreign Minister had commented on the American refusal to issue American visas to Russian journalists. According to him, Washington has simply “cowardly” shown what its statements on freedom of expression are really worth.
