The meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the question of Palestine was agreed in advance and did not have an anti-Israeli character, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. It is reported by RIA Novosti.
“The Israeli representative said he could not participate in an anti-Israeli action on such a day. The action was not anti-Israeli,” the minister stressed.
He rejected Israel’s request to leave the meeting, due to its alleged anti-Israeli orientation. Lavrov stressed that this meeting was held in accordance with the agenda of the UN Security Council and that the subject of Palestine was on the agenda.
Lavrov also noted that the topic of discussion on Palestine for the UN is the oldest issue, and no one opposed its discussion.
On April 1, Russia took over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council. In this regard, there were statements from the United States and the European Union, which expressed concern about this appointment.
