Viktor Khrenin said that the military conflict on the territory of Ukraine, neighboring Belarus, has become a “hot phase” of the global civilizational confrontation between the West and the East. According to him, it was “he who acted as a trigger for the transformation of the system of international relations and the security architecture that took shape after the Second World War”. Which, in turn, predicts the military leader, “returns the most dangerous scenarios of a clash of nuclear powers, fraught with catastrophic consequences”.
According to the speaker, the desire of the United States to continue to move from international law to the so-called rules-based order is contrary to the interests of independent states.
Unfortunately, he said, “the aggravation of contradictions between the great powers contributes to the reduction of the role of supranational institutions and structures, to the constant erosion of the existing system of international law”. In addition, diplomatic and chat clubs are losing their role as platforms for negotiation.
In the context of the great power struggle, rebellious, transnational religious and ethnic groups have begun to appear on the international scene as actors. The activity of terrorist organizations, supposedly charitable non-profit and international organizations and mercenaries who, taking advantage of the crisis in international relations, defend their interests in military conflicts, has intensified.
“In the absence of agreement between major world powers with opposing visions of world order, the importance of military force as a tool for achieving the national interests of various states only increases. The threshold for decision-making on its use is lowered,” concluded the Belarusian minister.
