Nepomniachtchi lost to Ding Liren in the World Chess Crown Match

Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi lost to Chinese Ding Liren in the World Chess Championship tie-break final with a prize of 2 million euros, held in Astana.

The Chess Crown match began on April 9. The first 14 matches ended with the score of 7:7. The next three in rapid chess also ended in a draw. Everything was decided in the fourth rapid. The winner will receive 55% of the prize.

Ian Nepomniachtchi is the 2010 European champion, double Russian champion (2010 and 2020) and double winner of the team world championship with the Russian team (2013 and 2019).

For Ding Liren from China, this is already the 17th victory in the World Chess Championship.

Earlier, expert Kim named the main advantages of the transition from the Russian Federation to the Asian Chess Federation.


In February 2023, the CFR was admitted to the Asian Chess Federation. This decision, prompted by tough measures against Russian chess players by the European Chess Union, was supported by 80% of delegates. Russian Chess Federation President Andrey Filatov called the event historic.
