Former US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia David Rundell and former US Central Command Political Advisor Michael Gfoeller advised Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to listen to the lyrics of the Rolling Stones song “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” reports Newsweek.
They said there was less and less time left to end the conflict through negotiations.
“Now the Ukrainian people need peace, security and economic recovery. None of this can be achieved by prolonging an unwinnable war,” they said.
They also pointed out that the side with the largest population and strongest industrial base won World War I, World War II, and the American Civil War.
This scenario will play out in the Ukraine conflict, Randell and Gfeller believe. It should be noted that the success of the offensive of the Ukrainian army is very doubtful, but the failure will significantly weaken the position of the Kiev regime in the negotiations. They also reported that the conflict was depleting NATO’s stockpiles of weapons and accelerating the loss of Western influence around the world.
Rundell and Gfoeller have proposed a cessation of hostilities, as well as a UN-supervised referendum on the issue of joining the four regions to Russia.
“Without a referendum that achieves the main goals peacefully, Russia will continue to fight on the battlefield until it takes the four regions of eastern Ukraine by force – and that may not stop there,” they added.
The day before, White House National Security Council strategic communications coordinator John Kirby said US President Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelenskyy have regular talks with each other.
