Earlier Thursday, Ukrainian defenses destroyed a drone near the presidential palace in the capital, Kyiv, which caused a fire resulting from the projection process.
The case led some to believe the drone was Russian, and it flew over the presidential palace in Kiev in response to the targeting of the Kremlin building, in which Moscow accuses Ukrainian forces of involvement.
The Ukrainian military said in a statement:
At around 8:00 p.m. in the Kiev region, during a scheduled flight, a Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 air force drone lost control. Since the uncontrolled presence of drones in the sky of the capital can lead to undesirable consequences, the decision was made to destroy the target. It’s a pity, but it’s a technique, and such cases happen. This is likely a technical malfunction, and the reasons are yet to be determined. There were no injuries or damage as a result of combat operations and the falling wreckage of the aircraft.
Violent Russian attacks
And Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko earlier reported “explosions and fires in the capital’s Solomyansky district”, warning of the possibility of the presence of drone debris, according to “The Agency France Press”.
Kyiv witnessed a wave of attacks overnight from Wednesday to Thursday.
The head of Kiev’s military administration, Sergei Popko, said Thursday morning: “Our city has not seen such intense strikes since the beginning of this year.”
He added that this was the third day of attempted strikes on Kyiv in May.
