May 6, 2023

The mall was vandalized, having been hit by mutual bombardment between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, as the war between them entered its fourth week.

Afra Mall is located on Airport Street in the eastern part of Khartoum, and is close to a number of populated residential areas such as Al-Amarat, Arkaweet and Al-Sahafa, and is surrounded by a number of banks and important civilian and security institutions. .

Afra Mall includes a number of luxury stores, restaurants and entertainment venues, in addition to a number of bank branches and exchange offices.

According to eyewitnesses who spoke to “Sky News Arabia”, the extent of the destruction of the center is very significant, as most commercial stores, especially those specializing in luxury goods, telephones and electronics, were victims of widespread looting and destruction.

Since the outbreak of the war in mid-April, markets and commercial areas have come under continuous attack, which has led to the closure of around 80% of the main markets in the three capital cities.

Looting is common in commercial and industrial areas to include everything including goods, foodstuffs, raw materials, productive inventory, even building roofs, air conditioning and lighting equipment, in a scene that Khartoum has been unseen throughout its history which spans over 200 years.
