Al-Burhan: Exit of Rapid Support Forces from residential areas is basis for ceasefire

May 8, 2023

Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan confirmed in an interview with the Al-Qahira news channel that the army seeks, through the Saudi initiative in Jeddah, to lay the real foundations to stop the fighting.

He explained that these foundations include:

Withdraw from residential areas and services. Empty the center of the capital of the military presence, evacuate the houses of the snipers and the military presence, otherwise we cannot speak of a ceasefire.

He stressed that it is not a question at this stage of political talks, but rather of the cessation of fighting and operations and the return of lost comfort to citizens, “in light of the spread of these gangs”.

He continued, “We welcome any initiative that spares the blood of Sudanese people and removes the specter of civil war from Sudan.”

The delegation of the Sudan army delegation

Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said: “It is true that we have representatives (in the Jeddah talks).”

He added that the army delegation represents Sudan and the government of Sudan, not just the military institution, as the delegation includes diplomats.

The situation is stable, except for Khartoum

Al-Burhan said the situation is stable in all states except Khartoum, where citizens are sheltering in houses and service centers for fear of the services of the armed forces.

He added that rapid support is present among citizens, hospitals and police headquarters, and they are not present at their military bases or any military site.
