Artificial intelligence is ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Who will determine this?

– Published on:

If we look at the horrible amount of services that have appeared recently, we will find that they have made it much easier for humans to perform many tasks, from programming to writing articles, analyzing images and video editing, in addition to a very long list of services that need long articles to list them.

But at the same time, these services have made it easier for criminals to commit fraud and scams and have contributed to the expansion of their criminal activities, which has increased human fears.

In China, and in a first of its kind, Chinese police have arrested a man accused of using the ChatGPT application to generate fake news and spread it on the Internet.

Human fears have also come from the possibility of artificial intelligence services replacing human jobs, which has been the subject of a major debate on this subject between proponents and opponents, and it is a debate which will continue. for a certain time.

But no matter how long the list of benefits of spreading artificial intelligence services gets, many people remain scared of it. In a Reuters-Ipsos poll on Wednesday, most Americans believe the rapid growth of artificial intelligence technology may endanger the future of humanity.

More than two-thirds of Americans worry about the negative impact of artificial intelligence, and 61% believe it could threaten civilization.

Even the man dubbed the godfather of artificial intelligence, Geoffrey Hinton, quit his job at Google so he could talk about the dangers of artificial intelligence, saying the most immediate and immediate danger to humanity is ” AI” and not “climate change”.

Is there a danger for humanity?

Asked whether artificial intelligence will really pose a threat to humanity, Asim Jalal, consultant in management science and information technology at G&K, told Sky News Arabia that artificial intelligence will have a clear impact on the world. future of humanity, but the question of whether this impact is negative or negative. Positively, this is an issue that will be determined in the coming period, and the data to determine this issue is not currently available, as there is so far an ongoing dispute between proponents and opponents, and up to this time, there are dimensions of artificial intelligence that we have not been able to fully grasp and grasp its dimensions.

For example, if we ask the question whether artificial intelligence has consciousness like humans or not, Jalal says the answer to this question is yet to be determined by scholars, so we have to answer all of them clearly. questions about artificial intelligence, before continuing to its current rapid development.

Is the application sufficient?

Assem Jalal says imposing specific laws for the activities and development of artificial intelligence is not enough, but it is important because it is part of the process of controlling the sector, and to this must be added, pump more funds for research that will answer the above questions, and determine the dimensions of artificial intelligence and its risks.

Jalal also added that there is another important thing besides imposing laws and funding research, which makes information related to AI services available to everyone. When ChatGPT 3 services were upgraded available to people, all the information about it was available to everyone, but when the ChatGPT 4 services were made available, they were not. The details related to it are for everyone, which can represent a dangerous affair, especially since we are at the beginning of the era of these services.

Artificial intelligence and crime

One of the main concerns about the existence of artificial intelligence is that it can be widely used by criminals. They can even develop it into a powerful weapon in their hands to carry out their criminal operations, and even if laws are imposed, they may be able to develop it in the shadows into a deadly weapon.

About these fears, says Asim Jalal, technology just as it came to us with medicine, also brought us disease, because technology gave us encryption as an example, and this same technology came to criminals with technology to break this encryption, etc. . of examples in this regard, and therefore everything is useful, It will have its dark side, but what is different with artificial intelligence is that these services will allow the public to commit crimes that specialists would not have been able to commit before, so this question will bring us back to the first point I mentioned, namely that we are now unable with the data available in our hands to answer whether the impact of artificial intelligence on us will be positive or negative on the ‘humanity.

Thus, it seems clear to us that the question of positive or negative artificial intelligence will be in the hands of humans themselves, because they are the ones who invented it, and they are the ones who will determine whether it becomes “good” or “evil”.
