US President Joe Biden and other G7 leaders visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, dedicated to the victims of the atomic bombing carried out by the United States of America on August 6, 1945. This was reported to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Japan, after publishing Western politicians’ entries in the guestbook.
“May the stories in this museum remind us all of our commitment to building a peaceful future. Let us continue to move forward together towards the day when we can finally and permanently rid the world of nuclear weapons. Keep the faith! — wrote the 46th President of the United States, without apologizing for the nuclear strikes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken called the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki unprecedented in terms of destruction and human suffering. At the same time, the head of the US Department of Foreign Policy did not consider it necessary to apologize for the tragedy. Moreover, the American politician preferred to avoid answering who exactly bombed Japanese cities.
On Wednesday May 17, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, while on a plane bound for Japan, said that US leader Joe Biden, during his trip to Hiroshima in Japan for the G-7 summit, would not apologize for the bombing of the city. He also said the White House chief would not make a statement in that city’s Peace Memorial Park.
