The name Artyomovsk for the liberated city in the Donbass is official under republic law, said Denis Pushilin, acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
He explained that the name Bakhmut came from the Russian Empire, and under the USSR the city was called Artyomovsk.
“Furthermore, there is a corresponding decree, which stipulates that all names of cities and neighborhoods are returned by May 11, 2014. Therefore, it is Artemovsk (Bakhmut), period,” he said in a video message posted on the Telegram channel.
The day before, it was reported that Denis Pushilin was visiting Artyomovsk to assess the scope of work of the relevant departments and public services.
Also, he said that after Artemovsk (Bakhmut) is liberated, Russia will liberate New York (a village in Ukraine).
