Authorities in Washington have arrested a truck driver who crashed into a Lafayette Square fence near the White House, a US Secret Service spokesman said late Monday.
DC police deemed the truck harmless, the Secret Service said.
The agency noted that the United States National Park Police will file appropriate charges with the support of the Secret Service investigation.
“No member of the Secret Service or the White House was injured and the cause and nature of the accident is under investigation,” Secret Service communications chief Anthony Guglielmi tweeted.
“Maybe the driver deliberately crashed into the guardrails,” Guglielmi admitted in a second tweet.
Part of the roads and paths around the park have been blocked, the Secret Service said.
