Videos posted by activists on social media showed fire and smoke rising from the Russian Defense Ministry building in Moscow.

Russia has denied reports of a fire at its defense ministry building in Moscow, according to state media, after emergency services said a fire broke out on a “balcony of the ministry.

“A fire broke out on the balcony of the Ministry of Defense building on Frunzenskaya Naberjnaya,” TASS said citing an emergency services source, also noting that emergency services were working at the scene.

TASS news agency reported that local officials later said no fire was detected in the building.

No fires were confirmed as no fires were detected by firefighters upon arrival.

A video clip released by CNN showed smoke surrounding the Department of Defense building, and a woman was heard saying, “The burning smell is horrible.”
