The statement came after The New York Times reported that US intelligence assessments revealed that a special Ukrainian military or intelligence unit may have orchestrated the attack.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denied at the time that his country was responsible for the attack.
“We said right away that the Kiev regime is responsible for this. In the end, it doesn’t matter which unit of the Ukrainian regime is responsible for this,” spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
For his part, a senior official of the Ukrainian president reiterated on Thursday that Kiev had nothing to do with the “strange and unnecessary” drone attack on the Kremlin, and downplayed what was mentioned in two American media.
Mikhailo Podolyak, adviser to the Ukrainian president, told Reuters in a statement that Russia was trying to reduce arms deliveries to Kiev by playing on Western fears of a possible escalation due to alleged Ukrainian attacks on Russian soil.
