22-year-old Brazil international Vinicius has been the subject of repeated racist criticism since arriving in Spain five years ago.
And Real Madrid’s game against Valencia last Sunday was halted for 10 minutes, as Vinicius pointed out to supporters who abused him, before getting into an altercation with the opponent’s players who led to his expulsion.
Commenting on this, Tebas said: “The greatest players are always the butt of racist slurs and all kinds of insults. Vinicius is targeted with the wrath of racists and fanatics.”
He added: “Vinicius is a different, unusual player. I’m sure he’ll win the Ballon d’Or one day. I think he’s an important addition to his club and to La Liga.”
And the president of the Spanish League said that the Spanish Federation has the power to impose sanctions, and at the same time demanded that ‘La Liga’ have the power in this regard.
He explained on this subject: “We want powers, because with these powers we are convinced that we will solve this problem within a few months”.
He continued: “If we get the powers, I’m confident we can stop this in six months, because this issue is easier than the financial challenges we’ve faced. I’m sure of it.”
It should be noted that in Spain, hate crimes are generally punishable by a prison sentence of one to four years, while crimes against the moral integrity of a person are punishable by imprisonment from six to 24 months.
