Preparations raise fears… Will war break out between Israel and Iran?

– Published on:

In addition to the strike plans against the Iranian nuclear program, which the Israeli army has been preparing for years, we are talking here about a parallel plan for a war with the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, a war with a regular state army, something Israel hasn’t experienced in four decades since clashing with the Syrian air force in the Lebanon war.

Despite the “soft fire” confrontation that has taken place between Israel and Iran for almost a decade, during which Iranian ships have been attacked, marches have been launched towards Israel and attempts have been made to attacking Israeli targets and citizens abroad did not rise to the level of a real military confrontation.

But the breakdown of talks on Iran’s nuclear program and the rapid evolution of Iran’s nuclear program, and the shift in talks about Iran’s proximity to the nuclear program from years to weeks or days, and the conclusion of Israel that a future confrontation with Iran is likely to be a multi-pronged clash is what prompted it to prepare, for a conventional war, a war which can be a war of attrition which will last from long days and will affect the infrastructure of both sides.

This Israeli understanding is behind the creation of a new unit within Israel’s military intelligence “Unit 54”, which was recently created within the Military Intelligence Research Department. Preparing a target bank in Iran for possible war and studying and tracking Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces.

In the new Iranian branch, they say that the conventional weapons of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards are old and underdeveloped, but Iran does not focus so much on modernizing its conventional weapons as on developing new tools of war , in particular the air force which relies on marches, cruise missiles and surface-to-surface or surface-to-air missiles.

Last week, for example, Iran announced that it was joining the narrow club of countries that possess hypersonic missiles by unveiling the “Al-Fatih” missile, which reaches 14 times the speed of sound, and therefore the systems of conventional air defenses cannot intercept it, and things In the Iranian branch, what is new is that they monitored a multi-year plan of the Revolutionary Guards to develop the air force and the missiles, which requires a corresponding Israeli response.

Perhaps the creation of this new unit in the Israeli army reflects a new Israeli vision that points to the possibility of a direct war between the two countries – and not only a war by mediators – due to the development of Iranian weapons that allow Iran will fight Israel directly and from Iranian territory.

Irrespective of Iranian nuclear threats, and parallel to this threat, Israel will prepare for a conventional confrontation with Iran, which will become bolder in the use of its conventional weapons against Israel, especially if Iran has a nuclear umbrella.
