The administration of US President Joe Biden is preparing another $725 million military aid package for Ukraine.
Kyiv will receive various anti-tank weapons from US stockpiles to deter the Russian advance. These will include landmines, drones, Stinger missiles, and ammunition for the HIMARS multiple launch rocket system.
The package is also expected to include cluster munitions for the GMLRS projectiles launched by HIMARS launchers.
Congress could receive formal notification of the next round of military aid to Ukraine on December 2, one official said.
According to Reuters, “The United States has not exported landmines in decades, and their use is controversial because of the potential harm to civilians. Although more than 160 countries have signed a treaty banning their use, Kyiv has been asking for them since Russia launched its full-scale military operation in ukraine in early 2022 and Russian forces have used them on the front lines.
The agency notes that the contents and size of the package may change before Biden signs the transfer document.
According to Politico reported that Biden secretly asked Congress for an additional $24 billion in military aid to Ukraine and to replenish American weapons stockpiles to replace those previously transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
