Israel has struck more than 250 targets in a large-scale air operation following the overthrow of the 61-year-old Baath regime in Syria. The strikes targeted military bases, weapons depots, and missile systems, marking one of the largest operations in Israel’s history.

Following the overthrow of the 61-year-old Baath regime in Syria, the Israeli army reportedly hit more than 250 targets in airstrikes in the country. According to information reported by the Israeli army radio and local press, these operations were recorded as some of the largest airstrikes in Israeli history.

According to BBC, the airstrikes targeted military bases, warplanes, surface-to-air missile systems, weapons production facilities, and ammunition depots belonging to the Bashar al-Assad regime. Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that it was the first time in more than 50 years that Israel had launched a simultaneous attack on all air bases in Syria.

The report emphasized that Israel was seizing a rare opportunity to destroy important weapons in Syria. Hundreds of warplanes and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) were used in operations to launch large-scale attacks across Syria.

Israeli army radio reported that a total of around 300 targets have been hit in Syria as part of the attacks carried out so far. It was claimed that Israel dealt a heavy blow to strategic military power in Syria with these operations.

These large-scale attacks by Israel have deeply affected the balance of power in Syria and caused tensions in the region to rise. Developments in the region following the operation are being closely followed by the international community.

The Israeli army entered the buffer zone in the occupied Golan Heights upon the instructions of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz.

Israel has occupied the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967. The boundaries of the buffer zone and the demilitarized zone were determined by the Withdrawal Agreement signed between Israel and Syria in 1974.

In his statement on the Golan Heights, Netanyahu argued that “the occupation is temporary.”

The Israeli army shared with the public images of soldiers and armored vehicles occupying the buffer zone in the Golan.
