Problems with energy supply are part of everyday life in South Africa. The power fails again and again. The government of the most industrialized country in Africa is trying to remedy the situation. It could come from the sea. The Turkish company “Karpowership”, a subsidiary of Karadeniz Holding, is said to have made a corresponding offer. The company already has many customers on the continent. According to its own information, it already supplies around 30 million inhabitants in eight African countries with electricity that is supplied by their power plants floating off the coast.
“It can make sense for emerging and developing countries to be supplied with complete power plants that were built elsewhere and then brought by ship to the desired destination where the power supply is needed,” said Hamed Hossain in an interview. The manager is the project manager for floating power plants at Siemens Energie’s Gas and Power division.
