Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Thursday he did not see a Chinese plan to end the war in Ukraine, but that a meeting between Ukrainian and Chinese representatives would be desirable.
He said on the eve of the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that Kiev had already signaled its desire to hold such a meeting.”We would like to meet China,” he said during a press briefing in Kiev with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. “It’s in Ukraine’s interest today.”China’s foreign minister said Beijing would set out its position on resolving the conflict through political means in a document that would refer to the principles of the UN Charter and take into account concerns of territorial integrity, sovereignty and security.Chinese President Xi Jinping is also expected to deliver a “peace speech” on Feb. 24 on the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.Zelenskyy said he had only heard “general information” about China’s proposals through Ukrainian diplomats, but that China was considering making peace was reassuring.
