Eng. Hamid Ibrahim Al-Jaleel from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia presented a working paper in which he reviewed the impact of consumed food waste on humans and biodiversity in green spaces and residential areas, where he stressed the importance of joint efforts in order to face the challenge posed by climate change and the accumulation of food waste because of its negative effects on food waste. Social life and the environment, pointing out that food waste is a key component for measuring the quality of life index of residents and visitors to public parks.
He explained that the prevailing behavior of the population in their regions must be known with regard to how to deal with food waste, as the delay in starting waste sorting programs has a greater negative environmental impact, noting the weak environmental awareness of the beneficiaries and the expansion of food sectors such as restaurants and various products, which leads to a high rate of volume. Waste, as well as the high rate of environmental danger caused by the multiplication of pests and animals that change their behavior to obtain food in a way that contradicts their nature.
The working paper recommended the need to activate the principle of community participation by paving the way for understanding and cooperation between investors and the non-profit sector in order to maximize the benefit from achieving the goals of Vision 2030, and to enable the private sector to participate in the municipal sector. It also recommended the necessity of continuing research additions and scientific studies in this field due to the importance of improving efficiency. And environmental impact, achieving the aspirations of environmental protection and its impact on environmental health, promoting green energy production by studying plans to convert food waste into energy as one of the basic elements, as well as supporting the initiative of the National Program for Environmental Awareness and sustainable development through the participation of relevant government agencies such as the National Center for Waste environment to provide various community awareness initiatives.
