The Shura Council is participating in the meetings of the 146th General Assembly and the 211th session of the Governing Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will be held in Bahrain from 11 to 15 March, with a delegation headed by His Excellency Mr. Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Council. The work of the 146th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is held under the slogan "Promoting peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies: combating intolerance". The work program includes several meetings of the General Assembly of the Union, meetings of the Governing Council, as well as meetings of the permanent committees, in addition to workshops and accompanying events, and coordination meetings between the Gulf, Arab and Islamic parliaments. The 146th General Assembly of the Parliamentary Union is scheduled to discuss the issue of peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies for all, based on what was stipulated in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that the basis of freedom, justice and peace in the world is the recognition of the equal and inalienable rights of all individuals, without discrimination on any grounds, including In that culture, race, color, language, ethnicity, religion, gender identity, or political affiliation, and that societies that are inclusive, and in which rights are preserved, are those that are coherent, sound, and democratic. The meetings will also witness the discussion of various topics, including cyber attacks and crimes, the file of reducing carbon emissions and climate change and parliamentary efforts in this regard, a draft resolution on orphan trafficking and the role of parliaments to address it, as well as a discussion on combating misinformation, hate and discriminatory content in cyberspace, and parliamentary solidarity with Members of parliament at risk, as well as discussing cooperation between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations. The work of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union is accompanied by meetings of several committees and groups, including: the Forum of Women Parliamentarians, the Forum of Young Parliamentarians, the Committee on Human Rights of Parliamentarians, the Committee on Middle East Affairs, the Permanent Committee on International Peace and Security, the Permanent Committee on Sustainable Development, the Permanent Committee on Human Rights and Democracy, and the Committee on Human Rights and Democracy. Promoting respect for international humanitarian law, the Partnership Group between men and women (gender), and the High-Level Advisory Group on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism.
