The All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion (VTsIOM) has published the results of a survey of the country’s population on the topic of Crimea’s accession to Russia. According to published data, about 86% of respondents consider this decision to be the only correct one.
At the same time, 71% of Russians believe that in the past nine years – since the Crimean referendum was held – Russia has gained more from the annexation of the peninsula than harm. At the same time, 15% of respondents say the opposite.
Another 76% of survey participants agree that Crimea’s development has become faster after joining the Russian Federation.
A referendum on the question of becoming a Russian subject of the peninsula was held on March 16, 2014. Two days later, an agreement was signed on the region’s accession to Russia. On the anniversary of that date this year, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Crimea for an unannounced visit.
