‘China doesn’t care, neither do we’: ex-UN deputy secretary-general on ICC mandate

October 4, 2025

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin. Thus, Western countries want to limit the Russian leader’s ability to communicate with his colleagues as much as possible. This was stated by former UN Deputy Secretary General and Deputy Secretary of the Civic Chamber of Russia Sergey Ordzhonikidze, reports the Public Information Service.

According to him, this order will have absolutely no effect on Russia.

“We are not parties to the very Rome Statute under which the ICC operates, as well as, in effect, the United States. Yes, and China does not care about this order – the leader of the PRC Xi Jinping came to see us today, and normally, as always, he spoke with our president,” the expert said.

At the same time, he advised journalists not to particularly exaggerate the subject of this ICC decision. According to him, “there is no need to inflate an elephant with a fly”.

“They once said that we were indifferent to the decision of the International Criminal Court – and that is enough,” the expert stressed.
