Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Military expert Gundarov explained why uranium shells promised to Ukraine are dangerous

The depleted uranium ammunition the UK has promised to supply Ukraine is more durable than other cartridges, explain RTVI military expert Vladimir Gundarov.

According to him, such ammunition has a greater penetrating ability – “they more effectively hit armored targets and long-term shelters”, puncture the armor of tanks.

Gundarov recalled that depleted uranium munitions were used in Iraq and Yugoslavia.

“After the end of the war in Yugoslavia, under pressure from the UN, studies were carried out on how these munitions affected background radiation. But since the studies were carried out by the same countries that bombed Yugoslavia, then, of course, they recognized that these munitions have no consequences for the population, and the radiation background at the place of their use remains normal. Of course, this is far from the case, ”warned the expert.

Gundarov explained that depleted uranium does not have an instant effect on a person, but the accumulated radionuclides create a problem because they do not decay and enter the bodies of people and animals with food. This influence, according to the expert, has not yet been studied.

One thing is clear is that it is very harmful. But for the West it is not a question of what is more harmful, what is more useful, the main thing for him is to prevent Russia from winning in Ukraine, so all means are good here summed up Gundarov.

The fact that London will supply the Ukraine with armour-piercing depleted uranium shells on March 21 declared British Undersecretary of Defense Annabelle Goldie. She noted that “these shells are very effective in defeating modern tanks and armored vehicles”.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, commenting on the statement by British Deputy Defense Minister, said that Western countries “have lost their bearings in terms of their actions and how those actions undermine strategic stability in the world”.

Russian Defense Ministry chief Sergei Shoigu said in turn that the supply of depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine had prompted Moscow “to think seriously about the follow-up, with which we can react”. .

Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a press conference following talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, said Moscow would be forced to respond to the supply of depleted uranium projectiles to Ukraine “from appropriate way”, because “the collective West is already beginning to use weapons with a nuclear component. What measures can be taken, the head of state did not specify.
