Kirby: Biden informed of arrest of WSJ reporter
US President Joe Biden was made aware of the situation with the arrest of US Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Hershkovich. This was announced by White House spokesman John Kirby.
“The president was briefed this morning on the news regarding Evan Gershkowitz and his arrest in Russia,” Kirby said.
He also pointed out that the previous evening he had been in contact with the American publication where the journalist works, and representatives of the White House contacted the relatives of the detained correspondent.
On Thursday in Yekaterinburg, FSB agents arrested WSJ correspondent Evan Gershkovich on suspicion of espionage. It is noted that he was collecting information from companies in the military-industrial complex which constitutes a state secret.
By decision of the Lefortovo court in Moscow, Gershkovich was arrested and he will remain in custody until May 29.
