Elements of accompanying accommodation for people with disabilities are being actively introduced in the Kaliningrad region

In Kaliningrad, they talked about the results of the implementation of the project “Confident steps to adulthood” on the basis of the rehabilitation center “Special Child”. More details in the material “The Eastern Heraldin Kaliningrad”.

So, in the regional Ministry of Social Policy, they talked in more detail about the goals and objectives of the project. It helps children with disabilities develop independent living skills and improve their quality through employment. So, for example, citizens can work in educational sewing and craft workshops under the guidance of qualified teachers and make various souvenirs.

The ministry also noted a new program, which will be a training apartment. It can be used by disabled young people diagnosed with a mental disorder. In the “apartment” it will be possible to temporarily live under the supervision of a social worker and at the same time learn to live independently. At the current stage, furniture is purchased, repairs have already been made. Such a project will see the light of day thanks to the financial support of the charitable foundation Absolut-Help.

A similar program already exists at the Soviet boarding school. The service is provided in a semi-stationary format for a year and a half. Two of these apartments are located in the dormitory of the technical school. Social workers help children master everyday skills and even communication culture. Also, accompanied by them, they go to shops, pharmacies, theaters and museums.

As for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities of working age, over the past 20 years, various programs have been implemented for them in the Social Care House “Apple Orchard” in the city of Polessk.

Deputy Social Policy Minister Oleksiy Feshchak noted that the introduction of assisted living elements allows people to adapt quickly and make their lives more convenient.
