Dew and rain will predict the harvest: folk omens for April 6, Artemov’s Day

– Published on:

On this day, Orthodox Christians remember Saint Artemy, Bishop of Thessaloniki. Among the people, several beliefs and signs are associated with him.

On Artemov’s day, the weather was hot everywhere, the peasants changed sleds for carts. On this day, bonfires were lit in the yards and fires were carried around houses to scare away evil spirits. The fire was also lit near the roads to show the way.

For peasants, time was of great importance, so they made up a set of folk signs.

It was believed that if the night is warm on Artyom, the spring is sunny and warm.

Dew or rain on April 6 – you have to wait for a large grain harvest.

Night frost – by harvesting oats and snow – buckwheat will be born a lot.

The birds predicted the weather. The lark sang – for warm weather without cold snaps. The chaffinch sings – to a strong cold.
