According to the telegram channel of the governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov, the money for the restoration will be allocated from the regional budget. The region’s leader also announced amendments in the Legislative Assembly to increase spending in a number of areas. According to him, this was done thanks to the quality work of employees of the financial and economic block.
Recall that at the beginning of this year the review approved the repair of the church. According to its conclusion, it was decided to return the historical color – gray-brown. This will bring it closer to the view that the building’s architect, Friedrich Heitmann, envisioned. Also, due to the high price of copper, another way to restore the roof was developed – by means of sheets of roofing sheet with laying in the seam. The author of such a project was local architect Artur Sarnits.
The church itself is in the neo-Romanesque style. It received the prerequisites and development directly in Germany in the 19th century. This is evidenced by the laconic aspect and the appeal to neo-Gothic motifs, typical of religious buildings.
Its construction dates back to 1901. At first, the facade of the church was made in a rather dark shade, and the angles and decorative elements were made of light sandstone. The roof was covered with slate or similar graphite-colored material.
Unfortunately, the temple could not be preserved in its original form due to severe damage during World War II. After that, it was restored only in 1976 according to the project of Yuri Vaganov. In a look reminiscent of a modern building, it was rebuilt for a puppet theatre.
Since 2010, the building has belonged to the Russian Orthodox Church.
