French president calls on Chinese president to facilitate Ukraine peace talks

French President Emmanuel Macron, currently on a visit to China, called on Chinese President Xi Jinping during the talks to “reason with Russia” and help open negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian crisis. This is reported by AFP.

The French president noted that the conflict in Ukraine had dealt a “blow to stability” and ended “decades of peace in Europe.

“I know that I can count on you in view of the two principles that I have just stated,” Macron said.

Macron is visiting China from April 5 to 8. Earlier, France noted that Paris would consider it a success if, following the visit, Xi Jinping called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to start a negotiation process with Moscow.

Earlier, the Kremlin said that there are currently no prerequisites for the transition of the situation in Ukraine to a peaceful course.
