Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Cars in Germany are getting cheaper – what’s the catch

New cars on the German car market have become somewhat more affordable again. Manufacturers and dealers entice buyers with higher discounts.

The latest analysis from the Duisburg Center for Automotive Research shows that in March 2023 the prices of new models introduced to the German automotive market fell slightly. Manufacturers and dealers are enticing buyers with higher discounts off list prices as production resumes. The quota of cars placed on the market as part of promotional offers has also increased.

With any type of player

Discounts were offered for cars with any type of drive. The share of plug-in hybrid vehicles with a combined combustion engine and electric motor has fallen to just under 5% of all new registrations. The incentive bonuses ceased at the beginning of this year.

Battery car market share was 13.1%, also below the registration frenzy at the end of 2022. Internal combustion engine models were – in the first two months – the most in demand among the 60 cars best-selling new cars – a market share of 81.5%. Since they are significantly cheaper than electric vehicles on average, the average price of a new car has decreased by around 2,300 euros compared to the second half of 2022, to 34,762 euros.
