June 11, 2023

Armenian police have released a Russian detained in Yerevan on charges of desertion to Russia. On this subject informed Armenia Today in reference to the Attorney General’s Office of Armenia.

The ministry said it was not considering extraditing the man to Moscow. However, as noted by the Attorney General’s Office, the issue of the extradition of a Russian can be considered upon receipt of an extradition request, as well as “if there are sufficient grounds that apply to extradition, in accordance with international treaties”.

On April 8, the Armenian Interior Ministry announced the detention in Yerevan of Russian Yuri T., 23, accused of desertion to Russia. The man was taken to the Marash Department of Internal Affairs. The department said a restrictive measure was applied to the detainee, which the Armenian Interior Ministry calls “military surveillance”.

Further details about Yuri T.’s case were not disclosed to the ministry.

At the end of February, the Russian Nikita Kamensky, 31, was arrested at Yerevan Zvartnots airport. In Russia, he was put on the wanted list in the vandalism case, which was initiated in the summer of 2022 due to anti-war inscriptions in the area of one of Moscow’s metro stations. They made a written commitment not to leave Kamensky, and after a few hours he was released.
