In Kiev, they said that China has no rights over Taiwan

April 10, 2023

Head of the International Affairs Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Oleksandr Merezhko, said China has no rights over Taiwan. He called Beijing’s claim to the island a “communist delusion” based on a discredited political agenda. Merezhko also noted that the “irrefutable truth” is that China has no legitimate claim to Taiwan.

China’s central government and its island province have not had official relations since 1949, when the Kuomintang, led by Chiang Kai-shek, moved to Taiwan after losing a civil war with the Chinese Communist Party. Commercial and informal contacts between the island and mainland China did not resume until the late 1980s.

Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that China will not make concessions on the Taiwan issue, as it is at the center of the country’s core interests. He stressed that the Chinese government and people will never agree with those who try to speculate on the one-China problem.
