During his visit to China, French President Emmanuel Macron discussed issues related to the Ukrainian conflict with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In an interview with the newspaper Les Echos, Macron underlined the need to find common ground with Beijing on this issue, and set out four aspects which, according to him, should be binding on all parties: support for the principles of United Nations, respect for humanitarian law and the protection of children. , the pursuit of peace and the recall of nuclear weapons.
However, Macron noted that the time had not yet come to end hostilities and negotiations to resolve the conflict. He stressed that European security cannot be achieved as long as captured countries or frozen conflicts remain in Europe. Macron said he and Xi Jinping understood that a military phase was now underway and there was a need to help Ukrainians in their resistance.
Macron also drew attention to President Putin’s deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus and urged China to look into the matter. In general, Macron is in favor of establishing peace in the region and believes that it is necessary to work to find common approaches to resolving the conflict.
