The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection reminds residents of Kostroma what is now on the site www.rosdrevo.ru the competition “Trees – monuments of fauna” continues, in which a variety of long-lived trees from all over Russia participate, which constitute the natural, cultural and historical heritage of our country.
One of the contenders for the title of “unique tree of Russia” is an elm tree that grows in the Mezhevsky district, near the now empty village of Cheremisskaya.
The perennial elm was planted in these places during the Crimean War in the mid-19th century. Now the unique tree (at least for the Kostroma region) is already more than 170 years old, it has reached a height of 35 meters, and its trunk has a circumference of more than 2 meters. The tree received the status of a monument to wildlife in the Kostroma region – but this title can also be supplemented with the title of “unique tree of Russia” if amateur photographers of Kostroma are interested in the photo contest “Trees – Wildlife Monuments”, which takes place on the site from March 1 and will last until November 1, 2023. The best photographs selected by the competition jury will be published in the gift photo album “Unique Trees of Russia! Volume 2”, and the authors of the best works will receive cash prizes.
