Kiev and Warsaw failed in food export talks, Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telyus said. His words are quoted by RMF FM radio.
Previously, the Polish government decided to ban the import of Ukrainian food products into the country. This also applies to deliveries in transit to other countries. In Warsaw, this was explained by the fact that consignments of Ukrainian agricultural products, entering Poland under cover of transit, were then re-registered while remaining in the country, since this possibility exists in European law. In Ukraine, they expressed their dissatisfaction with such a ban, because, according to Kiev, it is a violation of previously concluded agreements.
As Telyus said, the parties could not agree, since they are not currently able to agree on the mechanisms for the transit of goods that would be suitable for Polish farmers. According to him, it is important to ensure the transit of Ukrainian food to other countries, but the interests of Polish farmers come first.
“We will work until we reach a 100% guarantee for Polish farmers,” Telyus said.
Since the beginning of February, Polish, Hungarian and Romanian farmers have been actively demonstrating because cereals imported from Ukraine are deposited and sold in the country. Only in Poland, according to official data, about two million tons of grain were imported last year. The ban on importing products from Ukraine was also introduced by Hungary and Slovakia.
