US Air Force asks Congress for $4.4 billion to replace Minuteman III ICBM with Sentinel

April 18, 2023

The US Air Force has requested $4.4 billion from Congress to replace the Minuteman III ICBM with the Sentinel.

“Minuteman III, first deployed in 1970, is the oldest land-based strategic missile system in the world,” the legislature’s website said in a statement.

It is noted that this measure is crucial for the nuclear modernization of the United States.

The US Air Force also reported that this year the first flight of the B-21 Raider bomber is planned, and the modernization of the B-52 bomber will also be carried out in China in the Indo-Pacific region and in Russia in Europe.

Earlier it became known that the Pentagon is facing a high percentage of unavailability of F-35 fighters from the US fleet of more than 540 aircraft. It is reported that only about half of it is suitable for combat missions. All of this is significantly lower than the 65% figure, which is currently considered unacceptable.
