The State Duma of Russia adopted amendments on life imprisonment for high treason.
Changes are made to article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code “Treason”.
According to them, spying, disclosing state secrets to foreigners, defecting to the side of the enemy or providing financial, logistical or other assistance to another state in activities directed against Russia can be grounds for a life sentence.
So far, all this is punishable by imprisonment of up to 20 years and a fine of up to 500,000 rubles.
Earlier, the State Duma supported the deprivation of citizenship acquired for a threat to the national security of Russia.
