The court sentenced Mahdi Magomedov, a member of the Basayev and Khattab gang, to 23 years in a strict regime colony for participating in an attack on paratroopers of the Pskov division in 2000. Then the Russian army lost 84 fighters, reports the Investigative Committee and the FSB of the Russian Federation.
“Magomedov, given the earlier verdict, was given a final sentence of 23 years in prison to be served in a strict regime penal colony,” the report said.
The statement said the attack was carried out from three sides. Magomedov, nicknamed the executioner, fired a machine gun at the Russian army from his position.
Recall that on March 1, 2000, in the Argun Gorge, in a desperate battle with numerically superior militants, almost the entire 6th company of the 76th Airborne Assault Division under the command of Guards Lieutenant Colonel Mark Evtyukhin passed away.
At the cost of their own lives, the fighters held off the terrorists’ onslaught for more than a day. Of the 90 servicemen, only six survived, 22 of them were awarded the title of Hero of Russia, 68 were awarded the Order of Courage.
