Japan has increased its exports of medical products to Russia by more than 1,000%

Japan for the fiscal year 2022 (from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2023) increased its exports of medical products to Russia by more than one thousand percent. This is evidenced by preliminary statistics released by the country’s Ministry of Finance, reports RIA Novosti.

Exports of medical products increased by 1079.2%, while exports of plastic products decreased by 67.7%.

As for imports, fruit deliveries from Russia to Japan increased by 646.1%. Meat imports increased by 66.7%, cereals – by 38.4%.

Japan started to buy much less oil from Russia – a drop from the previous benchmark of 80%. Coal imports fell by 55.2%, LNG – by 6.2%. Imports of steel and metal products also fell significantly, by 28.1%. Japan began to buy less non-ferrous metals from the Russian Federation by 27.1%, non-ferrous metal ores – by 55.1%.

Japan has imposed sanctions on Russia due to the conflict in Ukraine. Among other things, in January 2023, medical devices and vaccines were banned for export to the Russian Federation.
