Switzerland, following the European Union, imposes sanctions on the private military company Wagner, as well as on the news agency RIA FAN, which will come into force on April 19, indicates the site of the Swiss ministry of Economy.
“The Federal Department of Economics, Education and Research (DEFR) expanded the list of sanctions against Russia on April 20, 2023. The Wagner Group and the RIA FAN news agency are now under sanctions,” the Swiss economy ministry said in a statement.
The country’s government explained adherence to PMC Wagner’s restrictive measures by saying that the company is “an instrument of Russian-led hybrid warfare”, and the RIA FAN news agency is “a propaganda broadcaster pro-government”.
Earlier it became known that the European Union added Wagner PMC and Russian international news agency Federal News Agency to the blacklist.
