Pawel’s balcony advice – “That’s what the balcony says about you”

– Published on:

Pawel Bartoszek, Deputy Municipal Representative of Viðreisnar, says it is ideal to discuss balconies now that summer has officially arrived on schedule. In a very amusing post he posts on Facebook reviewing these issues, he suggests a title, which we at DV found perfect, despite Pawel not mentioning the media by name in his post.

But let’s leave the word to Pawel:

“Now summer has officially started and it’s time to talk about balconies. Balconies are the gardens of our block dwellers, and so a good balcony changes everything. If people are looking for an apartment, there are several things to keep in mind regarding balconies.

I think one of the biggest tips is that balcony views are overrated. A balcony doesn’t need a good view, a view in Iceland is something best enjoyed through a window. If the real estate agent talks about the balcony with a beautiful view, it means that there is a large expanse in front. This means little shelter, strong wind and household members who are afraid of the air and dare not be on the balcony. That being said: light and shelter – yes please, sight – unnecessary.

One of the best ways to appreciate the balconies on the block is to walk outside the block like the worst burglar and see how they are used by the residents. If the balcony is used as an extra room, it is a good balcony. If they’re usually used as extra storage, that means they’re cold, dark, or poorly designed.

Here is a list of things we can see on the balcony and what they say from the balcony:

Garbage bags (-3 points)

Needless to say, if people use the balcony as a waiting room for waste storage, it will hardly be possible to go any lower. Nobody gets a tan where not long ago there were layers of poop and milk ferns.

Wheel (-1 point)

Although it is very bourgeois to have a bicycle on the balcony, it still says a lot about the balcony if people want to use it mainly for storing things. Often applies to elongated balconies that meet fire regulations, but not people’s needs and wants.

Gas grill (1 point)

A gas grill is obviously nice, but that’s not saying much, because a gas grill on bare concrete is some minimum cooling equipment. But it still means that someone has at some point found a reason to go out on the balcony and stay there. Which is good.

Plants all year round (2 points)

Indicates that someone thought at some point that the balcony might be a comfortable place to relax. An additional point (+1) can be awarded if one of the plants is still alive.

President (3 points)

Now we are talking. Someone has already stood on the balcony and thought. “I want to stay here longer, but my legs are tired and I want to sit down!” Nobody puts a chair in the trash. A chair makes a balcony in a room.

Summer flowers (4 points)

Someone thought, “It would be nice to have some comfort here.” And had to buy them pots and flowers. Summer flowers also mean people are flexing their balconies. People want passers-by to see how comfortable they are. Ideally, Houses and residences will come to visit.

Clothes horse (5 points)

At first glance, it may seem like a storage item, but it’s far from it. If the laundry is drying on the balcony, it means that the weather is nice and also that the owners of the house are looking for an excuse to go to the balcony and shower.

Dining table (6 points)

The softness of the balcony is such that people use it for dining. This is of course a beautiful testimony to the quality of the balcony. There is also a lot of flex. ” See! They eat on the balcony. But huggô.”

Breeding box (7 points)

Family members are literally trying to create a reason to hang out on the balcony for as long as possible. Wants to take care of vegetables and harvest all summer. Detractors might say that people are so steeped in the ideology of built density that they refuse to accept the fact that they should of course move to private accommodation.

Hammock (Honourable recognition and 8 points)

If the balcony is so beautiful that people want to “hang on” to it in the Icelandic weather and read a book, this requires special recognition. I admit that I have never seen this work in practice, except on pinterest sites. I think hammocks on balconies in Iceland are a myth.

Heating (8 points)

The household refuses to face the annual climatic cycle and tries to “prolong the summer” by buying a few extra degrees in the fall. It doesn’t necessarily work. But that tells us that summer on the balcony must be awesome.

So. I note that media outlets such as Mannlíf/Smartland/Lífíð á Vísi are more than allowed to repost this post, slightly edited in the connection style, with titles such as Pawels’ Balcony Council or This is what the balconies say about you – number 7 is a surprise or Don’t buy an apartment if you see this thing on the balcony!

Feel free to share this post with the number of points your balcony scores. The first ten to do so do not win Toyota Hilux.

Happy cool summer!
