April 22, 2023

Ukrainians at the World Ballroom Dance Championship, held in Moldova, were not allowed to participate in the ceremony of presenting participants with the national flag.

This was announced by Ukrainian participant Victoria Ursatiy on TikTok.

After that, according to her, the dancers refused at all to attend the ceremony. At the same time, they nevertheless took part in the competition: the Victoria couple did not reach the final, while the Ukrainian juniors were among the winners and entered the award ceremony with the country’s flag, a reported NewsMaker.

“According to the rules of the World Dancesport Federation, all participants go to the presentation of the countries without flags, with signs, absolutely everything. Championship chief referee Heinz Spaker has warned that going out with flags is impossible. All the participants accepted, except for the Ukrainian athletes, but we cannot make exceptions,” the Moldovan Ballroom Dance Federation told the publication.

They also reported that no one prevented the participants from entering the awards ceremony with the flag and that the flags of all the countries participating in the championship were hung in the hall.
