US Supreme Court strikes down ban on abortion pill

Washington: The US Supreme Court has upheld people’s access to the widely used abortion pill. After this decision, this medicine can remain available in the market, while the trial in the lower court is going on. The future of the drug was called into question after a federal judge in Texas ruled on April 7 to suspend FDA-approved mifepristone, used in more than half the abortions in the country.

The Supreme Court, in a split decision, has reportedly struck down the ban on mifepristone imposed by a lower court, maintaining the status quo. The president praised the decision and said he stood by the FDA’s approval of the pill. Joe Biden said in a statement that, as a result of the Supreme Court’s decision, mifepristone is available for use. We will continue this fight in the courts.
