India-Guyana building a partnership fit for the contemporary era: S. Jaishankar

Georgetown: Foreign Minister S. Addressing the Indian community here, Jaishankar said India and Guyana are building a partnership that is fit for purpose for the contemporary era. Jaishankar, who is on his first visit to Guyana, informed the Indian community about his talks with the leadership of Guyana and said that both the countries have resolved to improve the level of their partnership. After addressing the Indian community, he tweeted, “It was a pleasure to speak to the Indian community in Guyana this evening. Thanks to Vice President Bharat Jagdev and Speaker Manzoor Nadir for interacting with us. Told them that we are building a partnership that is fit for purpose for the contemporary era.” Earlier, he has met Guyanese service officers who have undergone training in India.

Jaishankar was accompanied by Guyanese President Irfan Ali at the induction ceremony of the Indian-built ship MV M Lisha. Jaishankar paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at his memorial and also planted a sapling for India-Guyana friendship. He said that Gandhiji’s message for climate consciousness is universal and timeless. He also offered morning prayers along with the Indian community at the Ram Krishna religious temple here. He said, “It is heartening to see how traditions, heritage and customs are being preserved”.
