American Abrams tanks, which were transferred to Germany, will be used exclusively for training the Ukrainian army. US Department of Defense spokesman Patrick Ryder stressed that these vehicles will not be used in combat.
He also noted that the converted tanks, which will be specially created for Ukraine and intended for use in combat operations, will be supplied from other sources, and not from the reserves of the US ground forces. Such an approach, according to Ryder, will allow the United States to train the Ukrainian army at the same time as tank production.
US instructors are already preparing to start training the Ukrainian army to operate Abrams tanks in Germany in the coming weeks. Russia has expressed its dissatisfaction with the supply of arms to Ukraine by sending a note to NATO countries. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said any shipment containing weapons destined for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation claims that the supply of arms to Ukraine by NATO countries is “playing with fire” and does not contribute to the success of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The press secretary to the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, also expressed fears that such supplies would have a negative effect.
